Marianne S. Rauch's Obituary
Marianne S. Rauch was born in Rye NY June 27, 1937 to parents John A. and Lucille Sinto. Marianne had an older brother, Michael who she was very close to throughout their entire lives, talking by phone virtually every Sunday even though separated by the entire country. Marianne was married in 1960 and had three children; Steven, Linda and David. She came to San Diego for the first time in 1967 when her husband received Navy orders to the area. There, she was active in several Navy spouses’ organizations supporting troops overseas during the Viet Nam War and the spouses manning the home front. She moved to Virginia, again on Navy orders, in 1970 and returned to San Diego in 1972 and bought the house on Tulane St. that many in attendance know well. With the exception of a single year spent in Newport RI, she lived there for the next 50 years. Marianne worked as a personal assistant at General Dynamics and a financial advisor’s assistant at US Bank for many years.
An avid knitter, Marianne spent countless hours crafting afghan blankets, scarves, baby booties and other items as gifts as well as donations for church raffles. Other interests included reading, watching “her” Chargers and her grandchildren who knew her as “Grammie.” Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than the anticipation of seeing them at Christmas time and other special occasions. Marianne didn’t stop the love at her own grandchildren, she was Grammie to her entire extended family.
Marianne (Grammie) is survived by her son Steven and daughter Linda, her three grandchildren: Steven Jr., Michael and Lauren, and her great-grandson Hudson.
Although Marianne is gone from this world, she’ll live forever in our hearts.
