Marilyn Eunice Cornwell's Obituary
CORNWELL, MARILYN (BROOKINGS) Marilyn (Brookings) Cornwell of San Diego, California, passed away on January 17th, at the age of 73, of complications following heart surgery at Scripps Memorial Hospital, La Jolla. Born in Great Falls, Montana, on August 31, 1936, to Eugene and Marguerite Brookings, she was one of four children who moved to the Skagit Valley in Washington State at a young age. She graduated from Sedro-Woolley High School with the class of 1953. On July 15, 1961, she married the only love of her life, John Cornwell, formerly of Kent, England. Married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, they were happily married for 48 years when she passed away. Before moving to San Diego in 1978, they lived in Vancouver and Victoria, British Columbia, Canada for 20 years. They have two beloved children, Graham and Trevor, who both live in San Diego. Her son Graham is a Lieutenant Commander in the U.S. Navy. Her son Trevor is a General Building Contractor and owner of the San Diego Bonsai Company. She has one grandchild named Ashley Cornwell. She was preceded in death by her parents, and one sister, Barbara in 1965 who was living in Texas. Marilyn is survived by her older brother Stan Brookings living in Sedro-Woolley, Washington and his twin, Ruth Kuske living in Sandwich, Illinois. Marilyn is also survived by her stepsister Kathy Mask living in Sedro-Woolley WA, and her two aunts Doris Kester of Sedro-Woolley, WA, Catherine Sedlock of Great Falls, Montana and an uncle, William Brookings also living in Great Falls, Montana. Marilyn loved higher education. She attended Skagit Valley College, in Washington State, Simon Frazer University, the University of British Columbia (UBC), Mesa College in San Diego, and the University of California at San Diego (UCSD). She spent many years in Medical Transcription at Scripps and Sharp Health Care in San Diego. She enjoyed exercising, reading and knitting. Marilyn and her husband John were avid travelers, and visited most countries throughout the world. The family of Marilyn Cornwell, would like to thank our family, friends and neighbors for their prayers, support and kindness during this very difficult time. We will miss her terribly. She was the best loving mother and wife we could of ever had.
