Marilyn Jo Smyth's Obituary
Marilyn Jo Smyth was born in Hoisington, Kansas on April 21, 1931. Marilyn passed away on October 9, 2024, at Bonita View Hospice Care. She was 93 years old.
Marilyn was born to Harold and Florence Stickney, the second of 10 children. She graduated from Hoisington Senior High School in 1949, always proud of her time playing clarinet in the school’s marching band.
Marilyn worked several jobs after high school; at an ice cream parlor, door-to-door sales with Watkins Products, as a bank teller, a phone operator and as a Harvey Girl at the Grand Canyon with her sister Patricia.
Marilyn met US Navy Pilot James Smyth in Hutchinson, Kansas. They married two months later in April of 1955, and to the marriage were born four daughters and three sons.
After many relocations following James’ naval career, they settled down in San Diego.
Marilyn was very active with Saint Columba Catholic Church, The Ancient Order of Hibernians, and was a founding member of the Right to Life Council in San Diego, and its first President.
Marilyn is predeceased by her husband James, who died in 2021. She is survived by 7 children, their spouses, 20 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
