Mary Marcella DeBates' Obituary
Mary M. DeBates (Marcy) passed away peacefully December 24, 2020. During her lifetime, she was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother of three, great grandmother of four, and a friend to many. Marcy was born January 24, 1929 in Montrose, South Dakota. She graduated from Montrose School in 1947 and then attended Madison South Dakota Teacher's College and taught at a rural school for two years. She married the love of her life Eugene (Nick) DeBates in 1949. They moved to California in 1953 with their five month old daughter, Nancy. They celebrated 60 years of marriage before Nick's passing 2009. She was proud of her daughter Nancy Cleaver, son-in-law Burt, and three grandsons and their wives Jeff (Roshni), Nick (Jamie), and Tommy (Nika), and four great grandchildren, Westin, Tyler, Kylie and Chloe. There wasn't anything she wouldn't do for them - they were the light of her life. She was loved, and will be deeply missed by her family, relatives, and friends. Final resting place will be at Ft. Rosecrans National Cemetery at a date to be determined. Donations in her memory may be made to Mission San Diego de Alcala.
