Mary D. (Mazzone) Corsi's Obituary
Mary Domenica Corsi, of San Diego, California, died on February 23, 2010. She was 86. Mrs. Corsi was born a naturalized citizen on May 26, 1923 to Marco and Dea Mazzone in Casamassima, Italy and was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. As a young woman she worked in the family business; Mazzone and Sons Bakery, and during WWII she assembled bomber switches to help in the war effort. Mary was married for 42 years to Lt. Colonel Vincent E. Corsi, United States Army (Armor) who preceded her in death in 1986. Vince was a native of Garfield Heights, Ohio and had made the military his career after the Korean War. Vince and Mary lived and traveled all over the world enjoying military life in Germany and Italy, and at United States duty stations in Kentucky, Arizona and California. After retiring from military service in 1960 they moved to San Diego where they raised their family in the Clairemont area.Mary was a fine cook and baker. At Christmas time she took pride in making a variety of traditional Italian cookies as gifts for family and friends. She enjoyed gardening, reading and the arts; especially live theatre and concerts. She was a member of St. Mary Magdalene’s parish for over 40 years and enjoyed community service projects through the church. During the last year of her life Mary resided at Belmont Village in Cardiff by the Sea where she made many wonderful friends. Mary is preceded in death by her son, Dante M. Corsi and daughter, Antionette, M. Corsi. She is survived by daughter Vera C. Campbell and her husband John B. Campbell of Rancho Santa Fe, Ca, and daughter Dorothea M. Wall of Poway, Ca. She was a loving grandmother to four talented grandchildren; granddaughters Jennifer M. Campbell of New York City and Rebecca M. Wall of Poway, Ca, and two grandsons; John V. Campbell of Del Mar and Joseph B. Campbell of Rancho Santa Fe, Ca.A visitation will be held on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 12-8pm with, the Rosary at 7pm, at Clairemont Mortuaty, 4266 Mt. Abernathy Ave., San Diego. A funeral Mass will be held on March 6, at St. Mary Magdalene Church, 1945 Illion St. in San Diego, Ca.In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in memory of Mary Corsi, made to the Dante M. Corsi Music Scholarship Fund at San Diego State University/The Campanile Foundation and mailed to SDSU, c/o Mariel Berry, 5500 Campanile Drive, San Diego, Ca 92182-4400.
