Mary Theresa McCormick's Obituary
Native San Diegan Mary McCormick passed away peacefully on February 27, 2020 at home in the presence of her family. She was 92 years old.
A Rosary will be held at the Clairemont Mortuary Chapel, 4266 Mt. Abernathy Avenue in San Diego on Thursday March 19, 2020 at 7:00pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1957 Coolidge Street in San Diego on Friday March 20, 2020 at 10:00am. A reception will be held in the Parish Hall immediately after the Mass. Interment will be the same day, 3:00pm at El Camino Memorial Park at 5600 Carroll Canyon Road in San Diego.
Mary was born in February 1928 to Henry and Mollie Balmer. She is a proud and active graduate of Cathedral Catholic Girls High School. She married Korean War veteran Don McCormick in 1950. Mary is survived by her children, Don Jr, Michael and Deborah, their spouses Barbara, Mary Jo and Memo, and her grandchildren Dan, Chris and Alex. She was an extraordinary mother, loving, tough and absolutely committed to her children.
Mary worked for the San Diego Unified School District and retired after 40+ years of service to this community. Mary had friends everywhere. She was the coach for all girl’s sports at Holy Family School (volley tennis anyone?), the first female head coach in the National Little League, and active in many ministries at Holy Family Parish.
The family is grateful to her many friends who have expressed their love of Mary for her friendship and many thoughtful acts. We will all miss her wonderful and warm presence.
