Mary Elizabeth Rutan's Obituary
Mary Elizabeth Rutan passed away Saturday, December 29, 2018 in San Diego, California. She was 94 years old.
Mary was born on August 20, 1924 in Monessen, Pennsylvania. She was a sweet, kind-hearted person who was easily moved to tears, and a selfless, loving mother devoted to her family. Mary enjoyed her role as a homemaker, going away on family road and camping trips, playing cards and scrabble, and had a comically poor sense of direction that amused her family and friends.
Mary was a devote member of her Jehovah’s Witnesses congregation. She enjoyed studying the Bible and sharing its teachings with others through ministry until limited by health and declining mobility.
Mary was predeceased by her beloved husband of 63 years, Phillip Edward Rutan, in 2011, her daughter Jill Ann Monroe (Rutan) in 1987, and son Phillip Randal Rutan in 1957; she is survived by her sons Phillip Bradley Rutan and Mathew Edward Rutan. Mary had lived in the University City area of San Diego for 47 years. She was deeply loved by her family, congregation, and friends and will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Clairemont Mortuary, 4266 Mt. Abernathy Avenue San Diego, California 92117.
