Matthew Scott Baranowski's Obituary
Matthew Baranowski transitioned from this life with comfort and dignity, surrounded by his family on August 18, 2025. Born in Scottsdale, AZ to Joseph and Patricia Baranowski on August 23, 1963, he leaves behind his wife of 40 years Carol, daughters Grace (Jack) and Allie, sister Susan (Bob), brother Paul (Karla), brother-in-law Brian (Diane), sisters-in law Fatima, Debbie (Mike), and Gail; nephews Andrew (Nicole), Matthew (Daniella), Jacob (Chelsea), and Barrett (Cher); nieces Meredith, Trish (James), Monica (Chaz), and Paula as well as great nieces, nephews, and cousins. Matt valued family above everything, and his presence will be truly missed.
Matt graduated from Arcadia High School in Phoenix and the University of Arizona. He lived in Tucson for 33 years, raising his family and working as a construction project manager building homes and commercial projects. He founded Tucson Pool Guard and was a voice for child pool safety.
After moving to San Diego, he began using his skills working at schools in transportation and facilities. Matt was the Director of Transportation & Assistant Director of Facilities at the Bishop’s School in La Jolla. He was dedicated to safely transporting students to and from school as well as supporting athletics. No construction project was too big or small for him to take on.
He was a sports enthusiast cheering for his Arizona Wildcats and the San Diego Padres. But nothing came even close to supporting and coaching his girls as they played basketball and volleyball. He coached girl’s basketball at Cornerstone Christian Academy, the Tucson Shock, and St. Gregory College Preparatory School. His voice and larger than life presence often got him “noticed” by referees when cheering for his girls and their teammates.
Matt was a dedicated husband, father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend until the very end. All who knew him were blessed by his big heart, big smile, and big hugs. He was beloved by his community, eternally committed to his family, and a man of faith, character, compassion, and humor. His larger-than-life personality made him a favorite of everyone he met. He will be missed by all who called him a friend.
Memorial services will be in the New Year, at a date to be determined.
