Michael William Erb's Obituary
Michael William Erb, age 59, of San Diego, California, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2025. Born on March 19, 1966, in San Diego, Mike was adopted by loving parents, Jack and Jerri Erb, who raised him with strong values and deep love. Later in life he was reunited with his biological mother, and siblings who he loved and was grateful to know.
Mike spent much of his life in San Diego, though he called Hawaii home for nine beautiful years before returning to the city he loved most. He graduated from James Madison High School and went on to attend San Diego State University, where his passion and talent for baseball led him to be drafted by the California Angels in 1987.
On November 11, 2022, Mike married the love of his life, Shawn, in a heartfelt ceremony in Coronado, California. Together, they shared a blended and loving family. Mike is survived by his devoted wife Shawn; his parents, Jack and Jerri; and his stepchildren: Jenessa Eberhardt (Josef), Christa Dubuque (Chris), Brendan Dunnum (Alex), and Trevor Dunnum (Sabrina). He was a proud and playful grandfather to eight grandchildren: Prestynn, Landen, Rylie, Camden, Hendrix, Lincoln, Harlowe, and Jackson.
Mike had a heart for service and community. He loved coaching youth baseball with Rancho Peñasquitos Little League and dedicated his time volunteering for San Diego County Parks and Recreation, along with countless hours spent feeding the homeless in San Diego. A man of deep loyalty and infectious charisma, Mike was known for his quick wit, boundless energy, and joyful spirit.
He was raised Catholic and carried those roots with him throughout his life. Mike loved being outdoors—whether it was surfing, barbecuing, tossing horseshoes, playing bags, or playing ladderball with friends and family. His tastes were as unique as his personality: from country rap music to horror movies, with Pulp Fiction being his all-time favorite.
Mike’s life was full of laughter, love, and adventure. He touched many lives with his humor, compassion, and unwavering support. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Mike’s life will be held at San Diego Marriott Mission Valley on November 2, 2025, at 11am to honor his memory.
