Michael James Maas' Obituary
Maas, Michael James SAN DIEGO — Michael James Maas of San Diego, CA passed away January 8, 2014. Michael was born November 5, 1959 in Quincy, IL to his late mother Charlene and father Richard who is currently living in Kearney, MO. Michael attended Quincy Notre Dame High School in Quincy, IL. After high school he attended Indiana University Bloomington and the University of Illinois Champaign where he excelled in law enforcement studies. Michael went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree in Organizational Leadership from Chapman University California in 2007. In 1979, Michael completed Police academy training and join the Quincy Police Department where he served his hometown community with honor and dedication. Michael went on to pursue his law enforcement career in California and completed California Highway Patrol Academy training in 1982. For the next 29 years, Michael would excel in the CHP achieving numerous awards for his exemplary performance, dedication and service to his community. Michael’s career as a CHP Officer began in San Francisco, then San Juan Capistrano, Malibu, and Public Affairs Officer Southern Division. As a CHP Sergeant, Michael served the communities of West Los Angeles, and El Cajon. Michael continued his service with honor to his community within the CHP. As a CHP Lieutenant he served the communities of Indio, Oceanside, Border Division, San Gorgonio and San Diego. He was loved by many and will be missed by all. Michael is survived by his partner Jesse Guerra; his father Richard Maas and his wife Joanie of Kearney, MO; stepbrother Shawn Russell of Elgin, South Carolina and countless members within the CHP, many community leaders and numerous friends. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 14th, 11 a.m. at the Immaculate San Diego Parish, 5988 Alcala Park, San Diego, CA, located on the campus of University of San Diego.
