Michael Patrick Sheehan's Obituary
Michael Patrick Sheehan, a beloved husband, father, and friend, passed away in San Diego, California on July 30, 2024, at the age of 74. Mike will be remembered for his creative and entrepreneurial spirit, his devotion to family and friends, his generosity, and of course, his jokes and sweet tooth!
Mike was born on March 3, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas to Charles and Louise Sheehan. As an only child in a military family, he lived in many places around the world before landing in Oceanside, California. There, he excelled in baseball as a left-handed pitcher and his ever-curious nature blossomed.
Mike graduated from the University of Southern California in 1972 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He spoke fondly of his participation in the car club during his time at USC and was a lifetime fan of the Trojans. After graduation he became a tennis pro and pursued many business ventures.
Mike was introduced by friends to Beverly Slater, and they met for the first time on the tennis court. She was his last tennis lesson on a Friday afternoon, which was followed by their first date. They were married on November 6, 1982, in Hillsdale, New Jersey surrounded by family. Together they adopted and raised their only daughter, their pride and joy. Mike and Bev were dedicated members of their church, enjoyed being active in their community, especially the Tierrasanta Village of San Diego, and cherished their beloved family dogs throughout the years.
Mike was a businessman and entrepreneur. Over the course of his career, he spent time in banking and real estate, launched a mortgage company, served as a consultant for start-up businesses and even owned payphones, a tire store, and a bumper repair shop. Sports were also a big part of Mike’s life. He excelled at playing tennis, golf, and baseball and enjoyed watching his beloved USC Trojans and the San Diego Padres. He especially treasured sharing his love of sports, especially baseball, with his daughter.
Mike is survived by his daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren, three sister in-laws, two brother in-laws, nieces, nephews, extended family, and a multitude of friends.
A funeral service will be held for Mike and Bev on Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 2:00p.m. at Tierrasanta Lutheran Church in San Diego, where they were lifelong members.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
