Nicholas "Nick" Lore's Obituary
Lore, Nicholas “Nick” — Nick Lore, 80, passed away on Friday evening, July 19, 2013, peacefully with his children by his side. He had been a resident of San Diego for the past 40 years. Nick, the oldest of two children, was born February 1, 1933 to Vito and Christina (Ugenti) Lore in Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Brooklyn Preparatory High School in 1950 and Fordham University in 1958. His collegiate studies were interrupted by his entrance into the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served as a security intelligence analyst from 1952 to 1956, assigned to the Far East Air Force Headquarters. Nick married Joan McCarthy on September 1, 1956. He was employed as the Assistant Secretary / Treasurer of Maracaibo Oil Exploration Company before joining the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1961. Nick’s FBI service included assignments as a Special Agent in the Kansas City, San Francisco (Defense Language Institute – Monterey), New York and San Diego Divisions, and a Supervisory assignment in the Organized Crime Section of the Special Investigative Division at FBIHQ. Upon his retirement from the FBI in 1983, Nick formed a company which, for 23 years, focused on security consulting and international fact finding. Nick was a member of the San Diego Chapter of the Society of Former FBI Agents, holding the offices of Treasurer, Secretary, and Chairman. In 1992, Nick served as co-chairman of the Society’s national convention held in San Diego. Nick was also a longtime parishioner and very active member of Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church in University City. He was a faithful Eucharistic Minister who served at Mass every Sunday for many years. He was enthusiastic about his faith, his family and life in general. The epitome of fitness, he paid great attention to being fit and trim and he looked it. He was both an avid runner and tennis player, often found playing with friends at the University City Racket Club or at other courts in La Jolla. Nick is survived by his children Chris (Kathy) Lore, Paul (Jerrie) Lore and Barbara Crozier, his sister Marie Sellitto, and his two grandsons, Nick and Tom. He is preceded in death by his wife, Joan, and his oldest son, Steven Lore. Nick’s memorial service will be on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at Our Mother of Confidence Catholic Church, 3131 Governor Drive, San Diego, CA 92122. Contributions may be made in his name to the Pat Tillman Foundation and the FBIAA Memorial College Fund.
