Pilar O Ramirez's Obituary
Born on June 9, 1933, Pilar Oriña Ramirez was known for her unwavering generosity and love. She was the second-oldest of nine children born to Simplicia Ringón and Norberto Oriña. Pilar married José Santos Ramirez in Manila and had two doting sons, Rodolfo and Ricky.
In the late 1960s, Pilar and her sons followed José from the Philippine Islands to the United States. She said farewell to her family, thinking she would return after two or three years. In San Diego, “Mamang,” as she was lovingly called, kept busy by working for a swimwear company, an electronics company, and a fabric store. She loved watching her sons’ baseball games. Throughout the years, the house at Cannington Drive was always buzzing, as the family welcomed relatives, close friends, and anyone who needed a transitional place to stay while they got settled.
By far, “Grandma” Pilar’s favorite person was Noah, her great-grandchild. Before Noah had the spotlight, Grandma Pilar spent her time cooking, crocheting, and making clothes for her grandkids. She enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s sports games. She was a huge San Diego Padres fan and was cheering for them to make it to the World Series this year.
Pilar Ramirez loved storytelling about her life in the Philippines. These stories, along with the good times in the U.S., will be affectionately remembered by all. She is survived by two sons, five grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
