Ralph Berry's Obituary
A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, Ralph AKA “The Treat Fairy” passed away August 30th at home. He was a loving, caring, selfless person who always thought of others. He will be greatly missed by family and by all who knew him, especially their dogs. We don’t think he ever met a dog he just didn’t love. He might not always remember your name, but he knew all the dogs in the neighborhood by name.
Ralph & Suzette were married July 4, 1975 (a date he couldn’t forget) and welcomed a son Ralph (R.W) in August 1978. They lived in Clairemont, University City, Mira Mesa and finally settled in Tierrasanta in 1989.
Ralph became “Grandpa” November 15, 2006, to Ralph Hall Berry and again July 21, 2008, to Steven Smith Berry. Truly the very best job he ever had. He had the pleasure of picking the boys up at day care, taking them to 7-11 for ICEE’s or by the station for Takis and social time. Boy was he the Social Butterfly.
Ralph retired in 2010 after his first heart attack, it however did not slow his social calendar. He made friends with the Paramedics at Station 39 in Tierrasanta (first on the scene) and friends for life with Doctors in the emergency department at Sharp Memorial hospital since they never gave up. You probably heard his story, he told everyone & anyone. He made sure everyone knew he was blessed that day and to never take it for granted.
Ralph is survived by his wife Suzette, son Ralph, daughter-in-law Shiloh, and grandsons Ralph & Steven, sister Lorrie Sollee along with brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and lots of nieces & nephews. Ralph has a large extended family because you weren’t just his friend you were his family also. As much as people may think they are better people for knowing him, he believed he was truly a better person for knowing all of you.
Remember Ralph as the jokester, prankster and all-around funny guy. Think of something he said or something he did, you’ll smile. People may not know why you’re smiling or laughing at a memory, but he’ll know !
