Richard Joseph Casey's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Joseph Casey, 84, peacefully passed away on December 10, 2022, in his hometown of San Diego.
Dick was born in Boston, Massachusetts on November 10, 1938. He grew up in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and graduated from high school in 1956. He continued his education at the Massachusetts Maritime Academy to pursue a career in the United States Naval Branch. He entered the military as an officer in 1959. While stationed in Taiwan, Dick’s friends had arranged for him to go on a blind date. This is when he would meet the love of his life and future wife.
Dick and Ching were married in a civil service on October 12, 1968 in Taiwan and then moved to Bridgewater, Massachusetts on May 1, 1969. From there, they had a formal marriage ceremony at St. Thomas Aquinas Church in Massachusetts on December 28, 1969. They lived together in both Virginia and Mississippi where they started their family.
In October of 1977, Dick and Ching moved to San Diego, California, where he finished out his military career. During his 23 years in the Navy, Dick had several assignments which took him around the world and included both shore and sea duty. After retiring as an Officer in July 1982, he continued working as a civil engineer for the government until 2004. Dick was a man of faith, and a dedicated husband and father. He always provided the best for his family and enjoyed spending time with those close to him. His interests included traveling (especially to Hawaii), sports, and a love for cars.
Dick is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ching “Tina”. He is survived by his two daughters and their spouses, Patricia and Erick Engel, Pamela and Todd Wood; and his grandchildren Jake Engel, Paige Engel, and Kayla Wood.
