Bob and I had some great times when we flew together and after. No one was more surprised than he when cancer came calling. But, he lived a very full life. If you can make his funeral, it will be at the Miramar National Cemetery on Friday, April 28th, 2:00 pm. We'll have a get together at my house right after. Jim [email protected]
I was one of Bobâ??s neighbors for more than 20 years. I have lots of memories of Bob. One time when I was 7 my friend and I got the courage to go and knock on his door and ask if we could see his train collection. When Bob would live town for awhile he would ask me to water his grass and plants. He paid me well too. Thatâ??s also how we found out he had a hot tub. Iâ??d be lying if I said the neighborhood kids never took advantage of that while he was out of town. ?? I also remember a few times when weâ??d come home and see a half-dozen cop cars parked out of Bobâ??s. It always ended up being false alarm caused by a shadow that set off his home security while he was away. Lol. These are just a few of the stories that I can remember about growing up next store to Bob. Bob was always a great neighbor to me and to the other kids in the cul-de-sac. Bob, you will be missed.
Bob and I flew together many times during our stint with Customs Air. Together with our spouses, drove to Cancun from Merida while stationed there. although difficult at times, Bob was fun to be with and fly with. I am deeply saddened to learn of Bob's passing. Not mentioned in Bob's obituary, but Bob was a former Army Aviator, U.S. Customs Pilot and U.S. Customs Special Agent. I was friends with Bob since 1987 and always enjoyed flying with him. Bob was a pilot aboard a U.S. Customs airplane, that interdicted and seized the largest load of cocaine ever smuggled by airplane into the United States. O.K. now that Bobby can't get in trouble, yes, I can attest that he did fly the Jetranger under the Coronado Bay Bridge. I remember our last flight was in the King Air. Bobby was going to go to the SAC office at San Ysidro. He wanted to take one more flight, so I went with him and his plan was to fly along the border to Yuma and back. On the way back, the CROC put us on a target that was low level northbound. We couldn't get close because it was all over the place and we didn't want to get spotted. We followed it up to Navy Lemoore. It turned out to be a trainer just out having fun. I remember our favorite night spot was the Officer's Club at MCRD. John Vance and Bobby and I would take my Buick out there and have a good time. Sometimes we would end up in the hot tub in Bobby's back yard. I remember he had an awesome wine cellar and humidor put in under the stairwell to preserve some of our favorite vices. Bobby was a man of many personalities. All will be missed.
