Robert (Bob) Vincent Steveley's Obituary
Robert (Bob) Vincent Steveley, LCDR, USN Ret., passed away Friday, September 15, 2017, surrounded by his family. He was born in Portland, Oregon, on August 6, 1934. He grew up on a farm in Salem, Oregon and after graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States Navy to serve his country. He was a decorated career Navy officer, serving in the Vietnam War and after he retired from the Navy in 1973, he went on to pursue a whole new career in Internal Verification and Validation for a Department of Defense contractor. He called himself a “Spook”, but his family called him “Commander Grump”, because he was stubborn and opinionated but in the best way possible, striving always to hold his family to the highest possible standard.
Bob was dedicated to serving Our Lord through the catholic church, loving and supporting his family, and was a huge fan of locomotive trains! #Choo-Choo!. He was also a lifelong ham radio operator with the call sign, WA6llK, helping folks contact family members far away before we had cell phones, texting, and face-time.
Bob is survived by his devoted and beloved wife of 59 years, Anne, three of his five daughters; Michelle Rose (Michael), Frances Wiegand (Robert), Victoria Fregosi (Michael). He has eight amazing grandchildren; Jennifer Steveley (Ryan De Los Santos), Matthew Fregosi, Selene Fregosi, Anthony Fregosi, Adam Wiegand, Emily Rose, Sarah Rose and Megan Rose.
He is preceded in death by two of his daughters, Theresa Marie, his oldest, and Melissa Lea, his youngest, both angels waiting for him in heaven.
LCDR Robert Vincent Steveley will be buried with full military honors at sea by the United States Navy. At a later date, his family will have a celebration of life to honor his commitment to God, his family, who loved him very much and to the country he loved and served.
Donations may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation or Catholic Charities for the Holy Family Parish in Linda Vista.
