Shirley Doak, age 86, of La Jolla, CA, passed away Wednesday, July 7, 2021. Shirley was born in Brooklyn, NY on November 17, 1934, and was raised in Los Angeles, CA and Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Syracuse University with a Masters in Journalism, where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and met her husband Donn. Subsequently, she lived in Bethesda, MD, Westport, CT and Eugene, OR. Shirley will be remembered for her signature laugh, her great cooking and her passion for vibrant colors. She enjoyed reading, Sudoku, puzzles, sewing/knitting/crocheting, and made most of her own clothes. She deeply loved her children, adored her grandchildren and will be greatly missed.
Preceded in death by her parents Matthew and Esther Saari, her brother Leonard Saari, her husband Donn, and their son Garry. She is survived by her daughter Daryn Moffa, her husband Carmine and son Michael; son Rob Doak, his wife Cindy and son Alex; son Galen Doak, his wife Janet and children Alexcia and Davin; her sister-in-law, niece, and extended family and friends. A memorial will be held at Clairemont Mortuary on Friday, July 23, 2021 from 4-8 pm at 4266 Mt Abernathy Ave., San Diego, CA. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, VA.
