Stephen Koules' Obituary
Stephen (Sam) Koules, of La Jolla, California, passed away Friday, November 30, 2018, at the age of 87 years old. Stephen was born in Jamaica, Queens, NY on December 9, 1930. He graduated from Straubenmuller Textile High School and after a brief stint in the Army, went on to receive his bachelor’s degree in economics from Brooklyn College. Stephen had a long career in urban planning, working both for the county of San Diego and then Riverside county (city of Beaumont). A life long New Yorker, he never lost his witty sense of humor and no nonsense style of communication. In his spare time, he enjoyed collecting rare books and unusual art. Stephen is survived by his wife, Ekaterini Koules, daughter Helene Close, son Peter Koules and grandson Isaiah Close. Memorial services to be held on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at 10:00 am at the end of Crystal Pier in Pacific Beach, reception to follow. Please contact the family to arrange attendance.
