Timothy Cline McGurren Jr's Obituary
Timothy Cline McGurren, known to his shipmates as “Mac” and to his family simply as “Dad,” passed away peacefully on October 10, 2025, at St. Michael Medical Center in Silverdale, Washington. He was born on February 24, 1962, in Fallon, Nevada, and spent most of his life in San Diego, California — a place he proudly called home.
Timothy dedicated his life to service, enlisting in the United States Navy in 1983 as an Aviation Electrician’s Mate. Over the course of a distinguished career, he rose to the rank of First Class Petty Officer. His unwavering commitment, technical skill, and leadership earned him numerous awards and citations, including the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and various campaign honors.
To his fellow sailors, he was “Mac” — reliable, hardworking, and always ready with a story or a helping hand. To his family, he was a devoted father, son, and brother whose love, strength, and sense of humor left a lasting mark on everyone who knew him.
Before his military service, Timothy’s passion for music shone brightly. He was a proud member of the Mighty Montgomery High School Aztec Marching Band, where he played with dedication and joy. Alongside his classmates, he also performed in a local group known as the Magic Montgomery Brothers. Throughout his life, he continued to share his gift of music, playing clarinet, recorder, and saxophone during services at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart and Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Churches. His music brought warmth and spirit to every gathering he was part of.
He is reunited in heaven with his parents, Timothy McGurren Sr. and Sheiko McGurren. He is survived by his brother, Thomas McGurren, and sister-in-law, Kathy McGurren; his beloved son, Christopher McGurren; his former wife, Ruth Borja; and his cherished niece and nephew, Naiomi McGurren and Nathan.
A memorial service celebrating Timothy’s life will be held at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in San Diego, California. Following the service, he will be laid to rest with full military honors at Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
In remembrance of his faith and devotion, the family shares his favorite scripture:
Psalm 23 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.
Timothy’s memory will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched — from his years of naval service to the melodies he shared with his church and community.
