Wally was an amazing man: kind, caring, funny, and most of all genuine.
Wally shared with my husband Jim and I, his love of adventure. From fishing at the lake (which really meant throwing a line in the water, popping a beer, and relaxing on the dock which Andy called “farming for fish”) to tubing down the Walker river while camping in their RV in Northern California. Adventure was always on the menu.
Along with his adventurous spirit, Wally was extraordinary in his knowledge of the scriptures. Along with his friend Loren, he would explain the historical and religious meaning with the conversations always circling back to his love of people and God.
I saw Wally as a father; the kind of father we all hope for, pray for: one who loves you for who you are, yet challenges you to be better.
His sense of humor was hilarious. As many of us know, the Sven and Ole jokes, stories of his athleticism and his time in the military were always meant to lighten any conversation and demonstrate his love of life, family, and friends.
Wally and Bev’s friendship is truly one of the greatest gifts that Jim and I have shared and this blessing has extended to the Turner family as well.
Thank you Wally for being our friend, role-model, and mentor. You will be missed beyond measure and every time we are sitting at the dock laughing at the people whose bumpers are still swinging in the wind, we will toast to our friend, sorely missed and always treasured.
