His favorite quote: It’s not what you don’t know that hurts you; it’s what you do know that just isn’t so.
Will Rogers (1879 - 1935)
Uncle David had told me this quote throughout my life. That’s why I became a qualified MLIS research librarian.
We had both graduated from Petoskey High School in Emmet County, Michigan.
He was my mentor!
He had told me to travel to all seven Continents by hiking, helicopters, ships, planes, biking, motorcycling, skiing, swimming, camels, and horses. Meet as many cultures as possible!
My paternal Uncle David whom always had a story of his global travels and adventures. He gave his accumulated millions to the San Diego Zoo!
To his family & ALL who knew David:. I met Dave over 30 years ago…David was a storyteller and he loved adventure! He would pull you in with his charismatic way and loved sharing his latest exciting goings-on from motorcycling New Zealandon his BMW or even something (like a home project) that (if not David)…really would have bored me. He made me envious of his travels and it seemed he was either returning or planning his next trip to someplace I would only have dreamed of going “solo!”.“Whatta guy!”. I last ran into Dave at Home Depot on Sports Arena shortly before his passing and he had a project going that he shared in detail. I think it was like a half hour of catching up. I will always remember his love of life!He will live in our hearts forever! ??
I was wondering what happened to Dave. I’ve known him since I was a kid. When I was 14 I helped him do construction on his house. He kept a picture of me with my head caught between a couple of uprights on the bannister. He reminded me of it occasionally. About 3 years ago he stopped by to give me the pic. He was always upbeat and had a positive attitude. He was a good man.I’m sorry to see him, my neighbor and friend gone.
I am very sad to just hear about David's death. He was a good friend of my husband and I. We visited and stayed with each other over the years after he moved back to San Diego. He hadn't answered my phone calls all last year and I was very worried about him but didn't know who to contact. He was a man who overcame servere deslysia and had a wonderful life. From tennis, to skiing to footbal watching, to building, motorcycling, bbqing, he did it all. He always smiled and had such a kind heart. I am saddened he is gone and I cannot say goodbye to his sweet face and cowboy hat.Diane Kaufman
I am saddened to hear of his passing. I previously worked at the Patrician and helped him get settled there. He was so excited about living there and meeting new friends. I'm glad to have had the opportunity to be a part of his life. He was a wonderful man with a big heart.
