David Walter Figg
July 13, 1931 – October 29, 2017
SAN DIEGO – David W. Figg was born in Petoskey, Michigan on July 13, 1931 to Dale R. Figg and Flossie Burrows Figg. As a teenager he hitchhiked across the country eventually settling in San Diego.
He was a graduate of Petoskey High School, San Diego State College, and held a General Teaching Credential. David enlisted in the United States Navy serving as a Corpsman specializing in dentistry. Upon his honorable discharge he worked for a time as an arborist and women’s shoe salesman for Karl’s Footwear to pay his way through college. After graduating he settled on a career with the San Diego County Probation Department (for Juveniles). He retired early and enjoyed many years of travel and adventure, and for a time he split his residency between Eugene, Oregon and San Diego.
David passed from complications resulting from cancer. Per David’s wishes, no services are planned.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Ric & Kimberly McCants, and grandchildren Sabrina McCants, Ryon Cobb, Amanda McCants, and Tess McCants.
