Irene Hortensia Manzano's Obituary
Irene Manzano passed away on April 30th, 2023, in San Diego, CA. She was the eldest of 4 children born to Rufino Valencia and Hortense Vinuela. Irene graduated from Regina Coeli High School, studied music at Mount St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles, and received an AA in Business at Mesa College in San Diego. She performed professionally as a singer in local opera. She was married to Armando Manzano on December 2, 1951 in San Diego, CA. She was a member of the choir for over 50 years at Mary Magdalene Catholic Church. Some important life events were her marriage, the births of her children and her love of performing her favorite music. She enjoyed singing — for both her own enjoyment and her audience — and spending time with her family and friends, and flirting with her doctors. Her favorite music came from musicals and opera and she did love listening to the music of the 3 Tenors. Irene is survived by her daughters: Yolanda Collins, Beatrice Manzano, Wanda Lindroos, Armanda Manzano, Dawn Manzano; son-in-law, Richard Lindroos; grandchildren: Sean Collins, Courtney Van Dusen-Murphy, Laurence Van Dusen, Renata Lindroos and 8 great grandchildren; special friends Connie Zuniga, Mary Alice Oliva, Delores Labitoria, Lucy Cianflone and Lilly Subia. She will be missed!
