Kenneth Russell Timothy Gordon's Obituary
Gordon, Kenneth Russell T., Sr. 04/19/1926 ~ 03/22/2014 SAN DIEGO — Born on April 19, 1926 in Modesto, CA to Ralph F. and Bernice Holton-Gordon. Kenneth joined the Navy in 1944. He was ordered to the Western Pacific as a signalman in the 7th Fleet. He was honorably discharged and on June 10, 1949 he married Marguerita Joy Roberts. He graduated from Fuller Theological Seminary in 1954, he and his wife pioneered a Baptist Church in Bishop, CA. In January, 1957, he returned to the Navy as a Baptist Chaplain. His duty assignments included USNS Sultan, Camp Pendleton, Okinawa, Naval Training Center, San Diego, USS Prairie, Pearl Harbor, HI, Marine Air Station, Santa Ana, CA and reserve Chaplain Units at various locations including Point Mugu, where he was promoted to Captain, USNR. He retired in 1986 after 32 years of total service with the Navy and Marine Corps. He was Senior Pastor at Verde Baptist Church, Cottonwood, AZ, Crest Community Church in El Cajon, CA and First Baptist Church of Montclair, CA. He and his wife pastored a church for military families in Pinetamare, Italy and ran a Christian Servicemen’s Center in Naples. He had been married for almost 65 years, with three children, Kareen Stipp of San Diego, K. R. Tim Gordon, Jr. (Bobbi) and Charlene Cooper (Andy) of El Cajon. Chaplain and Mrs. Gordon have nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He has authored Biblical commentaries. Interment at Miramar National Cemetery on March 27, 2014 at 12:30 p.m. Memorial Service at Clairemont Emmanuel Baptist Church on Saturday, March 29, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. – Arrangements under the direction of Clairemont Mortuary, San Diego, CA.
