Aunt Toshi was one of the main reasons I became so interested in traveling when I was a child. She used to send me boxes of Botan rice candy (I was shocked that you could just eat the rice “wrapper”), Hello Kitty stickers and stationery, and lovely letters filled with Japanese vocabulary words. I still have one of the letters she wrote back in 1991! She really opened my young eyes to other cultures and I carry that with me today. I’m so grateful that after decades of cards and letters, that I was able to visit her in person a couple times in San Diego. This picture is from the first time I got to meet her and Uncle Kazi in person. The other time we were so busy talking and catching up that we didn’t even take pictures!
Rest in Peace Auntie.
I love you ❤️
Tabitha
