Toshiko Morikawa's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Toshiko Onishi Morikawa December 27, 1931 – October 20, 2025 With hearts full of love and sorrow, we honor the life of Toshiko Onishi Morikawa, who passed away peacefully on October 20, 2025, at the age of 93, surrounded by her devoted family. Born in Yokohama, Japan, Toshiko’s early years were shaped by resilience and grace. She came of age during the trials of World War II, spending her formative years in her father’s village in Shikoku — a place that instilled in her a quiet strength and deep appreciation for life’s simple blessings. In 1962, Toshiko proudly became a U.S. citizen, a moment she held close to her heart. She built a beautiful life in Charleston, South Carolina, before settling in San Diego, California in 1975. Though she embraced her new home on the West Coast, her soul remained tethered to South Carolina, where she formed lifelong friendships and treasured memories. Toshiko was a woman of many passions. She found joy in classic Westerns — Bonanza and High Chaparral were her favorites — and she was a gifted cook whose meals brought comfort and connection to all who gathered around her table. Her love for painting was a quiet expression of her spirit, and her faith was the guiding light of her life. A devoted Christian, she found peace and purpose in daily scripture and prayer. She leaves behind her beloved husband of over 50 years, Kazuhiko Morikawa; her daughters Susan Hunt (Mark) of South Carolina and June Gorzelanski (Jim) of San Diego; and her adored grandchildren — Taylor and Lauren Hunt, and Nathan and Nicholas Gorzelanski — each of whom brought her immeasurable joy and pride. Toshiko now joins her beloved son, Danny Hawkins, in Heaven. Though our hearts ache with her absence, we find comfort in knowing she has answered the call of her Lord and Savior and is embraced in the eternal warmth of His love — and in the arms of her son. She was the heart of our family: a quiet force of love, wisdom, and unwavering faith. Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the love she gave, and the memories we hold dear. --- 🕊️ A Celebration of Her Life Date: Monday, November 3, 2025 Time: 11:00 AM Location: Clairemont Mortuary 4266 Mt Abernathy Ave, San Diego, CA 92117 Burial to follow at: El Camino Memorial – Sorrento Valley & Memorial Park 5600 Carroll Canyon Rd, San Diego, CA 92121 Flowers are welcome and may be sent to Clairemont Mortuary.
